Plastic Bald Cap Application for a Full Head Life Cast

DURATION: 0:05:25

Application of a plastic bald cap on a male subject with short hair in preparation for a full head life cast with ears out. The same basic process can also be followed for applying bald caps for use in a makeup to create a bald head effect.

2.

Head Wrap for Full Head Life Cast Measurements

DURATION: 0:04:08

A head wrap is a technique developed for capturing a simple impression of a subject’s head shape for wig making. This process can also be adopted for life casting as a way to keep a record of the subject’s hairline and head shape, to help when cleaning up a life cast and checking its accuracy.

3.

Full Head Life Cast in Silicone

DURATION: 0:09:38

A full head life cast with ears out, taken in silicone and plaster bandage. The life casting silicone is augmented with a regular fast setting platinum silicone to increase tear strength and speed up the process. The two halves of the plaster bandage shell are separated with paper towel to enable the two halves of the plaster bandage cast to be applied and overlapped more quickly.

4.

Casting out and Cleaning up a Plaster Positive from a Silicone Life Cast

DURATION: 0:29:59

Casting a plaster positive from a silicone life cast. Preparing for casting the plaster positive, casting the plaster and then mounting and cleaning up the plaster cast.

Course Description

Life casting is the processes of safely taking moulds directly from a live subject. This allows us to create prosthetic makeups, masks, and costumes that fit the human form, as well as reproduce the human form to make realistic props and effects such as dummy heads, severed limbs, and body parts.

Speed, choice of materials, and accuracy are essential factors in life casting to ensure the safety and comfort of your model, and produce detailed results.
