Sculpting Homo Habilis in WED clay. Homo Habilis was an archaic human who lived around 2 million years ago. This character display bust sculpture was based loosely on images from natural history reconstructions and fossil skulls, and a little bit of artistic license.

Making a Brush-up Silicone Mould of Homo Habilis

Creating a brush-up silicone mould from a WED clay sculpture using platinum silicone reinforced with fabric. The silicone mould is supported with a plaster multi-piece jacket.

Casting Homo Habilis in Silicone

Casting the Homo Habilis bust in silicone from a silicone mould using a soap release agent. The silicone is applied using a brush-up method and backed with a rigid fast cast PU resin.
