Were you at the Tutors’ Forum at The Prosthetics Event?
Neill Gorton was joined by Richard Mcevoy-Crompton of Bolton University (who sponsored the Education Stage) and by Justin Neill and Kim Neill of Neill’s Materials, who provide many students and colleges with bespoke and bundled kits for starting the year with everything they need to start creating straight away. The forum was attended by dedicated and passionate teachers and practitioners who were looking for ideas, advice, and support on a variety of issues specific to the teaching of their subject.
This forum was for all tutors of prosthetics and makeup effects, and was attended by educators from Further and Higher Education as well as from Academies and independent providers of training. There was lively discussion about how best to organise planning and preparation, the support, development, and destinations of students, the best way to access further training (for students and for tutors!), and how tutors could communicate, engage with, and support each other. Many tutors decided to continue the discussion of the afternoon in person or by exchanging contact details – something it’s hoped will carry on between Events!
Tutors were also given a special gift in the form of a one-month institutional subscription to the new Gorton Studio Online School, which provides practical demonstrations and guidance on the foundational skills for the industry. The online tutorials of Neill demonstrating and explaining each step and process were a welcome addition to tutors’ educational resources: the subscriptions have been very enthusiastically received!
If you did not get your free month’s academic subscription at the Event and you want to try out all the Online School has to provide for you and your students, please get in touch – they are available at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It was great to see so many dedicated educators at the Event, both in the Tutors’ Forum, on the stands, and in the crowd. More images of the whole Event will be appearing over the next few weeks on Facebook and Instagram, so keep an eye out for that!
