Designed for:Everyone who wants to develop a solid understanding of creating and working with prosthetics, make-up and creature FX.
This course will give you an in-depth grounding in the world of prosthetics and make-up FX, from basic sculpture techniques to prosthetic manufacture, mould making and even simple animatronics. Your study time will consist of a combination of taught subjects and personal projects, involving learning the fundamental principles of the trade and developing your skills with the materials and techniques used every day in professional make-up FX workshops.

The course is structured to deliver comprehensive, prescribed training in the basic disciplines of the subject and is designed to be organic as it progresses, allowing each participant the freedom to select further content that they would like to incorporate into their studies through their personal projects.

There will be a number of demonstrations throughout the seven weeks which will be partly determined by the interests of the group. In addition, regular visits to the Millennium workshop are arranged to enable students to see an FX studio at work on real projects, and interaction with those working on them is encouraged.

Your course will culminate in a final project of your choice. Whether this is a major silicone gel prosthetic or realistic silicone severed head for example, you'll plan and develop this project through the first three weeks of your course, and work full time on it for the remaining four weeks, supported throughout by our tutors.

Your personal project is your opportunity to apply the skills you have already gained, as well as tackle any additional techniques and materials you particularly want to learn about. We will assist you in devising a project which really gets the most out of your time by involving the processes which are of particular interest to you, whilst addressing which will be of most use to you in your aims and objectives as a professional technician.

Ultimately your final project will also provide you with a significant piece of work to feature in your portfolio. You may want to create a prosthetic make-up, a dummy body part or an animtronic mask for example. The choice is yours, but we'll help guide you in order to make the most of your new found skills.

Whilst your own personal project allows you to explore the particular materials and techniques which are important to you, you will also be able to observe the other students' projects develop and therefore gain an insight into the elements they have chosen to pursue as well.
